July Bethlehem Star

  •  BBC has been able to plant the seed of God’s love in over 45 homes during the week of Vacation Bible School. With the number of children and parents at church for one week we have open opportunities to disciple and to continue to plant God’s seeds of love as we continue to invite and welcome the community in BBC.
  •  God brought his people together to work during VBS. How great it was to see the church family using their gifts to enhance His Kingdom here on earth.
  • God has answered prayers as healing is taking place in the lives of some of our seniors.
  • The children collected over $600.00 for project kid to kid to help with the ministry project of clean water in India. This will provide clean drinking water for 208 children for one year.
  •  The church family is hanging together in worship and in working around the church. Marshall will be amazed the building is still standing the weeks he is away. We may not have done things exactly like he would have but we are working together to keep things running smooth. The flowers are being watered every other day, the grass is still being mowed, the doors are being checked, and the lights are being turned off.
  • The WMU are making plans for the July ministry project while collecting socks and underwear for children.
  •  The Wednesday evening summer dinners and study of the parables are going well. The fellowship around the tables and the discussions of the scriptures are enlightening.
  • Visitors continue to come to worship every week.

The cost is $7.00 for each box, lunch is by donation. Reserve your spot by noon Tuesday July 9. Menu includes: Pot roast with onions, carrots and potatoes, country style green beans, and assorted desserts.

God is so good…
Our June lunch earned BBC $500.00 for the Building and Grounds. What a blessing. I just love the fellowship around the tables monthly. I am hearing how many others appreciate being able to stay at church for lunch and catch up with friends during this time.

During the month of July the WMU will be collecting underwear for and girls from grades 1 through 6. Also there we are collecting socks for boys and girls. Please bring your underwear to the church and put them in the Beacon Sunday School class.

June Bethlehem Star

Carol’s Corner:  Look what God is doing…

I am so excited with how (you) the congregation are sharing your enthusiasm of the summertime opportunities.  One of which is the overwhelming desire to continue with prayer and Bible study on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer.  Your requests have been heard and we will continue to listen.  There will be light summertime meals served at a reduced cost.  We will meet June 4, 2014 with a meal of BLT sandwiches, raw veggies and dessert.  Cost $3.00.

A second request mentioned has been a set visitation for home-bound members.  Therefore, on June 4th at 10 am those who would like to make a visit with another church member to a home-bound person.  June 4th Imperial Plaza is the stop for a visitation team.  If there are more people who would like to visit another stop will be added.

A third request made was for a pictorial directory.  I agree one is needed, but I believe this should be held off until a Senior Pastor is in place.  A pictorial directory would be a great way to welcome the new Pastor.  So yes, we can make one but that will be in time.

A fourth request made was for greater communication.  Therefore one of our young adults, (Melissa Swann) is using her gifts and talents as she does the face book page and website.  Another member, (Paula Chandler) has stepped forward and is willing to do the monthly newsletter.  When there are needs for bulletin inserts, a member, (Jenet  Stevenson) is willing to design them, print, and stuff the bulletins.

A fifth dream brought to light was doing Backyard Bible Club in the Penick Road neighborhood this summer.  The Seekers Sunday School Class will be doing this project following Vacation Bible School.

Look where God is working and join Him in His work.  Bethlehem, may we be found faithful in growing God’s Kingdom here on earth.

A covered dish dinner will begin at 5:45 pm. Followed by a Called Business Meeting.

“Dear Member:
This is to advise you of a Called Business Meeting on June 11, 2014 at 6:30 pm for the purpose of suggested changes to the Constitution and By-Laws.

Items involved will be as listed below:
Article II, par. 18 to remove this paragraph.
Article II, par. 14  to remove the word etc.
Article III, par. 3  Business Meeting quorum to change from 25 to 20 active  members to constitute a quorum.

John E. Brubaker, Jr
Moderator “

church picnicAn Indoor Picnic to help raise funds for the Building and Grounds who are making their list of things that the church needs to fix for the remainder of 2014 will be June 29th following the morning worship service.  One item being considered is the need for new equipment for heating and cooling.  This is a big ticket item.  Therefore, in thinking ahead let us be faithful in preparing for our future needs.  Donations for the indoor picnic will be collected rather than a charge for the meal.  Let us set a goal of $500.00 for this event.
