Our National Partners in Kingdom Work

Our church supports the mission efforts of 2 national agencies: The Southern Baptist Conventrion (SBC) based in Nashville, TN. and The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) based in Atlanta, GA. We also support our local association of baptist churches, (The Richmond Baptist Association) and our state association (The Virginia Baptist Mission Board).

The SBC is the oldest and largest of the 2 national groups. The CBF, while not a denomination, is a fellowship of like minded churches that are either part of the SBC or wholey aligned just with the CBF.

It is the “like minded” that creates the distinction between the 2 groups.  I recommend that you visit their websites to fully understand what each supports.

These 2 wonderful Baptist agencies provide resources and support to thousands of churches world wide. They both send missionaries, both locally and internationally. And our church members support both.

The SBC has 2 seasonal mission offerings, The Annie Armstron Easter Offering for national missions and The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions. The CBF has a year long mission offering entitle The Global Mission Offering that supports all their mission work.

During our worship services we will use materials to promote both agencies efforts.

Recently, there has been confussion as to which agency we support. There was even discussion in some circles that the pastor decided to support one and not the other. Let’s clear this up…we, the church and pastor, support both national groups. All of our mission gifts are funnelled through the Virginia Baptist Resource Center to the various recieving bodies.

Continue to pray for the leadership and servants of our partners around the world and down the street, as they pray for us, the local church, as well.

Preparing for 2009

We’re heading back to St. Croix. This year we will be providing a VBS for Frederiksted Baptist.

At this point, we have 17 going…wow…12 from Bethlehem and 5 from Derbyshire Baptist.

As we prepare, we will post.

Preaching on a Rainy Day

I shared part of the story of  Habakkuk yesterday in worship. This poor prophet lived in the midst of chaios and constant threat of war. Where was God? Why did God raise up fierce persecution in order to make a point?

Habakkuk remained consistant in his song…consistantly asking the tough questions…consistant in reminding the readers and hearers that God was still in control…consistantly bewildered!

Now the rainy day…the sky was dark, the room lights we a little lower than normal…the topic, while ultimately uplifting…was dark. A great morning to snooze during the sermon…LOL-

peace my friends

In a community with options…

What a blessing it is to serve a congregation that has soo many opportunities to serve the Father. We support missionaries through our financial gifts to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and the Southern Baptist Convention. We also support our youth financially as they prepare for their mission trip to Louisiana. We will have the opportunity to support the group going to Frederiksted, St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. Let me say this…what a wonderful sign of solidarity and partnership was shown when the youth made a donation of $50 from their profit from the Valentine Banquet towards the group going to St. Croix. I know they will be rewarded for their thoughtfulness and hard work.

We support our Clothes Closet ministry, our music ministry, our WMU and our children. We support Lamb’s Basket (food ministry shared with other area churches), ISH (Interfaith Services of Henrico-a wide variety of assistance for Henrico residents in need), and our youth.

We build ramps and bathrooms. We reach out to our neighbors with fellowship and compassion. We offer worship that offers songs of our forefathers and our children in worship.

We support what we believe God is already doing or wants us to do. We do it in large and small groups and as individuals. If you have more ideas of how we can serve God, let others know and build up support for it.  If you see God at work in a ministry at BBC, tell everyone you can.

We have an ever increasing offering of ministry opportunities, and not every opportunities will be for everyone. Encourage those who work hard for the growth of the Kingdom. We are a community of GRACE. FREE GRACE…t

Remember…I love you, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it!
